It may be hard for the player to distinguish which ending is which, however if you get the bad ending you will not have to start the game all over. I had no problems with the battle technique and I actually found it somewhat helpful at times despite the large differences from other survival horror game battles. Yes it is different than what most people are used to, it is unlikely that it will be the only reason you may not be able to progress in the game.

Once you are used to it,it is pretty much a breeze. Many people have complained about the battles in the game. There are boss fights in the game however, where the protagonist will have to defend themselves against a powerful person or creature depending on the circumstance. Throughout the game you will find new weapons that you can use to defend yourself. Unlike the protagonists of games like Haunting Ground and Clock Tower, the main character in Rule of Rose will always have to be on their guard because they will have to fight enemies they encounter. You CAN run however and most of the time you will be able to avoid unnecessary battles. Also unlike Haunting Ground, the main character will not be able hide from their enemies. Some things you should know is that the dog does NOT attack like Hewie in Haunting Ground, instead he will help guide you through different areas and help you progress through the game. Although this game may seem similar to Haunting Ground, is different and unique in its own way. It is unlike any survival horror game on the market with a unique story line.Īs many of you probably know from looking at the game and its screenshots, the main character of Rule of Rose teams up with a faithful companion- a dog. Rule of Rose tugs at the heart strings of the players several times in the game. You either love or you hate the people that you come across in the game, and you may even be undecided about certain ones until the end of the game.

Rule of Rose does an amazing job of connecting the player with the characters in Rule of Rose. But the story is unique, the environments heavily detailed, and the art is fantastic. If you're not about that, this game probably isn't for you. This is a game that revolves around search and find tasks. The graphics for the time (2006) are pretty incredible, but after some time, you can tell that this applies mostly to the main character, and less attention to detail was given to most others. Mostly, it's just running around the enemies/away from the fight. The combat absolutely sucks, but once you get the hang of it, most battles aren't an issue. It's very dark, and unless you do as much exploring/side tasks as possible, a little hard to follow. This game is less about the play and more about the story. This game is on the Top Ten list of Banned video games (for the use of mildly suggestive themes involving children), hence the pricing and difficulty in finding a good copy. This game is absolutely worth playing, but I do not recommend spending more than $100 on it, unless this game has personal significance to you.
